A Peacock Fan (posted by Elaine)

I adore peacock images and the earlier peacock designs from Chocolate Baroque have been among some of my favourite of their stamps, so I was excited to see the new peacock images. When I saw the shapes on the new Peacock Parade stamps, I was inspired to make a fan. This is actually quite a large size project, being 12 inches across including the lace.

I started by embossing the peacock tail 6 times onto dark teal card, cutting each one out. I then embossed the "leaf" shape 6 times onto purple card, adding highlights with turquoise H2O paints, Glossy Accents and large teardrop shaped gems. To stick my fan together, I die cut a scalloped circle, which was embossed using the peacock feather border, mounted on a block into a semi circle using red line tape. I added some blending toned ribbon gathered around the edge of the shape.

I then added some little gems and a tassel in a toning shade. I used the semi circle to attach all the feathers together in a fan shape. I finished off with some purple lace which I highlighted with some gilding wax and then finally added tiny turqiouse gems in the eyes of each of the feathers.

This was a bit of a labour of love with lots of cutting out, but I love these colours and enjoyed pulling my design together. If you haven't already taken advantage of the special offers on these stamps, now is the time to go for it.

  2. Striking indeed & I love the colours with all the tiny exotic details you included. The lace along the outer edge is exquisite & the iridiscence created by the sparkle of the gems on all the eyes together with the embossing is gorgeously decadent. The layering of all your elements from the centre outwards is wonderful & I love the way that gathered ribbon round the scalloped circle half really emphasizes the fan shape.
