Building Backgrounds (posted by Judith)

Hi Folks, I have a couple of samples to show you today, using the Harlequin Fragments/Tangled Fragments multibuy stamp set.
For my first card, I have chosen a soft colour scheme, using a printed tag, and embossed the dotty harlequin stamp using white embossing powder. I have used the large dotty stamp on the main background, stamping my image onto scrap paper first, then onto the card to get a fainter image. This is known as second generation stamping. I stamped three butterflies from the Briar Rose Butterfly stamp set onto beige vellum, using white embossing powder.

The poppy image is from the Flora and Fauna stamp set, which I stamped onto white card and coloured it using pencils before cutting it out. Lastly, the sentiment comes from the Mackintosh Sentiments clear stamp set, and I have again embossed this with white embossing powder. I sanded the edges of all of my pieces of card before assembling my project, and added some cream lace.

My second project was made using a tag that I coloured with leftover inks from my project here as I did not want to waste the remaining ink. I coloured two further tags, and this was one of them. I stamped the large background stamp using a dark blue ink, and added white highlights. I used a stamp from the Artistic Expressions stamp set on the background using a turquoise ink, which I also used to edge the tag.

I stamped a peacock feather from the Tangled Peacock stamp set onto pale green vellum three times using navy ink and clear embossing powder. I coloured the reverse of the images with alcohol markers before cutting them out. A piece of emerald ribbon finishes the tag.

Keep checking back for some fabulous samples from my Team Mates in July. Thanks for stopping by, Judith xx

  3. I really like the delicate colours on your card Judith. The white embossing and use of vellum really gives a great effect and an unusual and subtle impact. I really like it. Your tag is lovely, the colours right up my street, embossing the feathers onto the vellum has worked really nicely, especially with the added colour too. Elaine xxx

  4. Your first sample is an absolute joy with the shabby chic ambience it has - I love the way that poppy seed head image straddles the two backgrounds & how the eye is led from that bottom left butterfly up to the seed heads, over to the top butterfly & down again to the sentiment. Your use of line & rule of thirds with the lace is a real lesson in design.
Your tag shows how that background stamp can be used to brilliant effect echoing the peacock feather's 'eye' shapes. The ribbon's colour acts as an accent should - bringing out the deep aqua of the peacock feather's eye as well as drawing the eye to the sentiment.
I love your use of vellum in both projects.

  6. These are both lovely pieces of work. The colours in the first with the white embossing give a sort of chalk board effect, and I love the harlequins put on the printed label, and the vellum butterflies are so light and airy, and this is finished perfectly with the poppy seed heads. The tag has such pretty colours and the background stamping is beautiful with the vellum peacock feathers which have been so beautifully coloured and cut out. I love the emerald ribbon which complements it perfectly. x

  7. Two lovely and so different projects. I love the delicate colouring of the first and the slightly shabby chic look that it has which works well along side the use of velum. The second piece shows just how versatile these stamps are as the effect on this one is lovely and colourful

  9. I'm in heaven looking at all these beautiful cards and stamps. I have not purchased any so of yet and are they difficult to cut out and mount . The stamps I have are either wood mounted or cushion or cling .

    1. Janice, Chocolate Baroque offer a stamp cutting service where they will mount your stamps onto cling mount for you. There is an additional price to the regular stamp price, but if you like your stamps cling mounted, then that saves you time. You can buy the cling mount from Chocolate Baroque as well, just look for Cling a Ling on the website. They are easy enough to cut out and mount, and the Cling a Ling comes with directions.
The stamps will work by sticking them straight onto an acrylic block with a glue stick, and then taking them off and cleaning them when you have finished with them. The cling mount just gives you a bit more cushioning for stamping, and helps to give a good stamped impression. Hope this helps answer your question, Judith x
