baroque ornaments and PVA

I remembered seeing a card on FB by Doreen Sympson last year that used a technique with PVA on stamps - I did try it, but wasn't too happy with the result at the time.
I decided to try again, but this time I used very cheap PVA instead of the decent stuff, and was much happier with the results.
Basically, lay the stamp face upwards, and cover with PVA glue - you need enough to cover the image, but not enough to give a thick coat.
I sprinkled brusho powders over the glue as well, and left them to spread.
Once the glue is dry - will take several hours - carefully peel off from the stamp and trim if necessary. Two of my pieces were trimmed down considerably because the edges weren't thick enough to hold together when I peeled the set glue off the stamp -still, they made nice flowers!

 I added some silver rub-on wax to highlight the design, stamped the leaves and sentiment from the bold blooms set and added my PVA pieces.

Guest Post- Bloom Each Season by Gerrina Poncin

Hi all, and so it is March, and it has been six months since my first post. I am glad to be back for my next turn as a Guest Design Team member; this month you will see several projects from me here.

I started with the beautiful Helebore stamp from the Spring is in the Air stamp set, and on the second card I used the beautiful Magnolia clear stamp. The first card gives a glimpse of what will bloom later in the year, and you can see the Magnolia as the days are a bit warmer.

Materials:

Chocolate Baroque stamps: Spring is in the Air, Bold Blooms
Versafine Onyx Black inkpad
Distress Inkpads: Broken China, Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint, Spun Sugar
Other: Aquarel Paper, Water and brush, Watercolour brush, white cardstock.

Instructions:

Stamp the two Hellebore stamps from the set twice onto a thick strip of aquarel (watercolour) paper and colour them with a Watercolour brush, a brush and water, and Distress Ink. Fold the strip, and glue it onto thick cardstock so that the strip continues onto the back of the card. Stamp the sentiment on the front of the card, below the painted strip using black ink.

Materials:

Chocolate Baroque Stamps: Magnolia Clear stamp, Bold Blooms, Texture Fragments
Versafine Onyx Black inkpad
Distress Inkpads: Wild Honey, Evergreen Bough, Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry, Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint, Milled Lavender, Dusty Concord, Brushed Corduroy, Gathered Twigs
Other: Aquarel paper, masking paper, blending tool, watercolour brush, white pen, pink cardstock



I stamped the Magnolia onto a strip of aquarel (watercolour) paper, and masked the image. Next I stamped the background texture stamp in different Distress Ink colours and sprinkled some water on the stamp before I stamped them to get a watery image. The background was coloured with Distress Ink and a blending tool.

I removed the mask and coloured the Magnolia. I glued the aquarel paper onto the cardstock, and stamped the sentiment using black ink.

Poinsettia Edges (by Shirley)

Hello everyone,  I hope you are doing well.   

We've been having a great time 'playing' with the new Christmas designs.   The following three cards all feature the Poinsettia Edge from Christmas Edges.   The new Edge stamps are fantastic, I love them (yes I know I say that about ALL of CB's designs, it's true I'm 'in Love').

I started with Distress Inks (Festive Berries & Fired Brick) using the Acrylic Block technique.   I over stamped the background using the Mistletoe fragment (another favourite from Pears & Baubles ) with Festive Berries Distress Ink.      I embossed the Poinsettia edge from Christmas Edges along with JOY from Bold Christmas Words on separate cardstock with deep purple powder and coloured with Festive Berries Distress Ink using water & a brush.   I decoupaged all three images and adhered along with purple ribbon onto the background.  I also added lots of stickles in the flower centers.


While I was working with the Poinsettia Edge, I kept seeing leaves from the Bold Bloom and Tangled Garden sets in the petals.   I thought I would try to make a poinsettia from the leaves and below is what I came up with :)

 

For the card above I started with Evergreen Bough and Pine Needles Distress Ink using the Acrylic Block technique.  I stamped around all the edges using the Poinsettia edge with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink.   Merry Christmas is from the fabulous Bold Christmas Words set.    The Holly Flourish die cut is Cheery Lynn B148.   I embossed the leaves from Bold Bloom & Tangled Garden with gold along with the flower center from one of the flowers from Tangled garden.  I painted the flower petals & leaves with Tom Bow markers and used lots of stickles on the petals & liquid pearls in the center.


This next card was a quick make as I used some glittery designer paper from my stash.

 

I stamped the Poinsettia Edge from Christmas Edges and Sentiment from Bold Christmas Words onto white cardstock with Memento Rhubarb Stalk Dye Ink.   I layered as shown and added a bow & stickles.

Floral Damask with a Bold Bloom (by Shirley)

Hello everyone,  I hope you are enjoying the weekend.

I have a couple designs today using one of the new Big Bold (& Beautiful) Backgrounds,  Floral Damask.     I've combined the first one with a flower from the Bold Blooms set.

I used peacock coloured designer paper for the background, stamped the Floral Damask background with Versamark, embossed with clear and blended Gathered Twigs Distress Ink over top.    It's a different effect as the image is not 'sharp'.

I embossed the Flower & Leaves from Bold Blooms & Fresh Blooms with a metallic mix EP (gold, silver & bronze) twice, coloured with Distress Inks and added some glitter to the decoupaged center.

I decided to not add too much to the background of this second card below.

I used a gold embossing power that has a bit of glitter chunks in it.   As you can see, the image is sharper this time.  I blended Distress Inks (Peacock & Raspberry) over and then added the sentiment from Birthday Words with Spellbinder label behind (S4-235).

Yellow Snowdrops? (by Shirley)

Hello everyone, 

I have two cards today featuring two more images from the new Spring is in the Air set.   I love the delicate flowers of these Snowdrops which are normally white.  

I used my Prisma Pencils to colour the two different snow drop images that I stamped on Kraft Paper.     The background is designer paper with very little design which I over stamped with a fragment from the Textured Fragment set using Shabby Shutters Distress Ink.  I blended a little of the same ink around the outside edges.   The die cut is from Spellbinder S5-090.

The is next card below features one of Snow Drop image from the Spring is in the Air set.

I used similar background paper and over stamped it using another fragment from the Textured Fragment set with Shabby Shutters Distress Ink.   The die cut is from Nellie's Multiframe MFD006.  The sentiment is from Bold Blooms.

Butterflies & Blooms (posted by Shirley)

Hello everyone !

I'm back with another creation using the beautiful new Steampunk Butterfly set.  I've had so much fun 'playing' with these designs and I'm a "Steampunk Newbie" !   This time I've used the Gear Fragment and the small Butterfly from the set together with Dylusions Inks.  It's exciting that Glenda now has these vibrant spray inks available for sale ! 

I created the background using Dylusions Inks (London Blue and Fresh Lime).  I sprayed with the inks, spritzed with water and blot with a paper towel roll.     I over stamped with the Gear Fragment using navy ink.

I embossed a small flower from the Bold Blooms set along with the small Butterfly from the Steampunk Butterfly set with brown.   I sprayed them with same Dylusions to colour.   I still had some cogs in my stash that I added to the flower centres and around the background.   I used micro beads for the bodies of the butterflies.

I'm very inspired by the gorgeous creations from my new team mates and there are more to come !

Stained Glass Window (posted by Judith)

Here's a sample using several sets of stamps to create a picture. I have used muted colours with gold accents to create the feeling of stonework in an old church. If you would like to know more details of how I created the project, you can check out the information on My Blog

Tangled Butterfly Trail (posted by Judith)

As a fan of Zentagle, I was over the moon when I first saw this new set of stamps. They are full of possibilities for a beginner like myself, or someone with more experience to create some lovely artwork. They can also be used for some lovely projects that do not incorporate Zentangle elements at all, as you will see over the coming days.

For my first project, I chose a soft colour palette of dusky lilacs and honey tones. I made a mask by drawing a thick line onto Eclipse masking tape, using two pencils strapped around a glue pen. This is known as a 'string' in Zentangle terminology. I placed the string shape onto my background card, and also covered a thin strip at the top and bottom of my card with masking tape. I then created the background by colouring onto a craft sheet with Distress Marker pens and spritzing them with water. I placed the background card onto the craft sheet to pick up the colour, and then dried the card with a heat gun. I then patted the card onto the mat again, to pick up some of the remaining blotches of colour, and dried the card once more.

Once the card was dry, I removed the Eclipse tape, and drew the Tangle patterns inside the string, and within the narrow edge borders. I coloured the designs using watercolour pens and a blender pen. I stamped the Butterfly onto a spare piece of card, and coloured this with pens as before, and added some black wire for antennae, curling the ends. I also added a flower to my design, taken from the Bold Blooms stamp set, to complete the design.
