Butterfly scene cards (by Anne)

Good morning. For my texture project today I have made 2 variations of a butterfly scene card.

I have used ink spritzing and stamping with texture stamps to create interesting backgrounds. I have used the large gem slice stamp and heat embossing with sparkling pink powder to add a colourful textured foreground for my scene. The butterflies were also stamped and embossed, then coloured and cut out.

Both scenes were created in the same way but I took one of them a step further by mounting on a larger card with a textured embossing powder border (using heat resistant tape to adhere the powder before heating), die cut foliage and floral gems, finishing with another of the lovely stamped butterflies. Of course I just had to add PVA pearls and glitter in there too.

We have all had so much fun creating with this month’s theme of texture.

Materials:
  • Just Butterflies, Nature Fragments, Abstract Fragments and Tall Trees stamp sets
  • 12 X 15cm and 15 X 17cm white card blanks
  • 11 X 14cm watercolour card
  • Ink spritzers (lime green with mica and bright pink)
  • Watercolour pens for colouring and background stamping (green, teal, blue, pink and purple)
  • Glitter pens (blue and green)
  • Heat embossing powders (cerise with glitter, and textured mix of fine and chunky pink, black and white)
  • Inkpad for stamping trees (dark green)
  • Glitter glue (aqua holographic)
  • Alcohol markers for edging card and colouring die cuts (green and pink)
  • Floral shaped faux gems (pink and blue)
  • PVA pearls (purple)
  • Heat resistant double sided tape (Wonder Tape - for heat embossed border)
  • Foliage Dies

Summer T-Shirt (by Anne)

Good morning. I hope that you like my summer themed project. I decided to revamp a plain T shirt top with foliage and butterflies.
 Front

Close up

Materials:
  • Wild Meadow, Butterfly Blush and Just Butterflies stamp sets
  • Iron fix fabric paints (green, lime, metallic turquoise, pink, violet, blue, black) and glitter glue for fabric (green/gold)
  • Light coloured smooth knit T-shirt (turquoise)
  • CutNDry foam, water spritzer bottle
  • Waste copy paper
Note: If you want to stamp onto a darker coloured fabric you will need to use opaque fabric paints specially formulated for dark fabric.

How to do it:
Prewash the shirt in plain soap to remove any fabric treatments or conditioners (I use ordinary dish washing liquid). Dry and iron to give a smooth stamping surface.

Load the paints onto the CutNDry foam and work in well with a palette knife. Place them sponge side down onto a palette (I used a piece of waste packaging) and lightly spritz with water to keep them damp. While not using I also place a damp cloth over the top. This keeps the paints useable while working on your project.  I have found this to be the best method for getting nice crisp stamping without paint clumping or drying out. They will even keep overnight if placed in a plastic bag.
Stamp the butterfly silhouettes onto copy paper and cut out to create masks for stamping. Wash stamps immediately after use.
Lay some plastic sheeting inside the shirt to protect any paint from seeping through layers (i.e. front to back) while stamping. I placed my glass mat inside the shirt while working. Stamp the butterfly silhouettes with multi colours. Dry. A hair dryer is useful to help speed up the drying process while working (the paints do dry quite quickly).
Stamp the butterfly details over the top of the silhouettes using black paint.

Stamp the foliage using paper masks to protect the butterfly images.
Leave overnight for the paints to fully cure and then iron fix the paints on the reverse to make them permanent and washable.

Tulip Journal Page (by Shilpa)

Today sees the first post from Shilpa as a regular member of our Design Team, she is making the move from the Guest Design Team to become one of our regular contibutors. We would like to welcome Shilpa to her new role.

Shilpa writes:

Hello everyone, I am sharing my mixed media journal page today for which I've used the Chocolate Baroque Spring bird Tulip stamp set.
To create the background, first I adhered different washi tapes onto the page.

Next I spritzed blue and green inks randomlly on the surface, I used more water to spread the colour on the surface. Dried it with a heat tool.
For extra texture I applied coloured Gel medium through a stencil.
My focal point are these wonderful tulips, which I stamped in black Archival Ink. I've also stamped cute dragonflies from the Just Butterflies stamp set.

I hope you liked my journal page. Thanks so much for stopping by, Shilpa.

Mixed Media Chic (by Shilpa)

It is a new month and time to welcome back Shilpa who joins us for another of her guest Design Team spots.  This week she treats us to a shabby chic style design. Enjoy.

Hello Everyone, Shilpa here, it is great to be back with my Guest Designer post here. I've created this mixed media card with Chocolate Baroque Just Butterflies stamp set, it has beautiful 8 butterfly image stamps.

I created the background on Prima Epiphany design paper. Created first layer of texture with stencil and texture paste. Let it dry completely. Next to bring on colours, I spritzed Colour shine inks in green and purple onto it (any type of mica sprays will also work well), then dried the surface with heat tool.
As I am crazy about texture, I created another layer with flower stencil and texture paste.

I spritzed the purple ink on watercolor paper, when it dried, I stamped butterflies and fussy cut it to adhere on my card.

Attached diecut "love" on the card.

More close up views

Hope you liked my card and get inspired.

Thanks so much for stopping by. See you next week.

Guest Post- Gift Wrapping by Gerrina Poncin

It's time for the third and final post this month by our Guest Design Team member Gerrina. Her project in beautiful, rich tones is one that you are sure to enjoy.

Gerrina writes:

It is already the last of my posts at Chocolate Baroque this month, and again I have made something different. If you look closer, you will see that I have only used one butterfly stamp set, a Texture stamp set, black stripes, and a lot of colour for this gift wrapping...

The outside:
The Inside:

With the ribbon:

Materials:

Stamp sets: Just Butterflies, Texture Fragments
Inkpads: Versamark, Stazon Jet Black
Distress Paints
Distress Stains
Gold embossing powder
Other: Sturdy smooth paper, vellum, blue paper paint samples, blue cardstock, black pencil, ribbon

Step by step:

Put different colours of Distress Paint onto your craft sheet, and pull a big piece of sturdy and smooth paper through the colours. You can do that several times until you have the result that you want. Put this paper aside until it is fully dry. When dried, you can cut this paper into pieces of 10cms x 10cms, and two smaller pieces for the little front panel.
Stamp some butterflies onto vellum and onto some paper paint samples with Versamark, and heat set them with gold embossing powder. Cut them all out. You can colour the vellum butterflies on the reverse if you want. I covered some of them with Glossy Accents, and left them to dry overnight.
Stamp on the dried and cut paper pieces with the texture stamps and ink of your choice, then draw some black stripes. Decorate with the butterflies.
Cut and score the cardstock and glue your coloured paper pieces onto it.
Colour a piece of ribbon with Distress Stains or Distress Inkpads, and tie it around the gift wrapping.

Creatieve groetjes, Gerrina

Gerrina's colourful folder would make a lovely gift, and is a really inspirational idea. Thank you so much Gerrina, for sharing your projects over the past three weeks. We have really enjoyed seeing your designs using some of your favourite Chocolate Baroque stamps. Gerrina will be back later in the year to share more of her artwork with us , but don't forget to drop in every day to see what the other Design Team members have to share with you.

Guest Post - A Flight of Butterflies by Shilpa Nagaonkar

It is my great pleasue to welcome another of our Guest BloggingTeam, this time all the way from India we have Shilpa who creates some beautiful and colourful artwork.  Her first post this week features the Just Butterflies stamp set, I know you will love this project.

Hello Everyone, I am super excited to be Guest Designer at Chocolate Baroque this month. For my first project I've Altered Wooden Plaque. I am in love with this Chocolate Baroque Just Butterflies stamp set. It has very beautiful and detail designed butterfly images.

  • This is a mixed media piece, so to start with I applied primary coat of white gesso to my plaque. When it dried completely, I applied Finnabair Platinum Crackle paste through Prima Turkish Grunge stencil, let it dry completely to get best crackle effect.
  • Next I applied Tim Holtz Distress paints Wilted Violet and Peacock feather randomly on the surface, spritzed water to let color move around. When I satisfied with colors, I dried the surface with heat tool. For more texture I stamped with Chocolate Baroque Abstract Fragment stamp and Azure Staz on ink. And my background was ready.
  • Next I stamped Butterflies with Versa Mark ink, used clear embossing powder and heat set it. I've used Sakura watercolor markers to color them.
  • Lastly I arranged window, flowers, Butterflies, hearts crystals, "Journey" word on the plaque.

If you liked my first post and project here..let me know, thanks so much for stopping by today.
See you next week!
