Steampunk Scene (by Kim)

Hello everyone, today sees the last post this month from our Guest Design Team member Kim. She has created a fabulous Steampunk themed project to inspire you.

Kim writes:

Hi there everyone, one of my loves is Steam Punk and what better to use than Chocolate Baroque's Steam Punk stamps.

Punky Flowers & Steampunk Funky Fish

I first brushed Vintage Photo through a stencil then stamped my images onto separate pieces of card. With the Seahorse I also masked him and extended his wing with adding a leaf from one of the punky flowers. The main punky image was stamped onto the flat image. I then stamped the image again onto the card - coloured them in - carefully cut them out - edged with more Vintage Photo. I did the same for the flower heads.

I then put the card together - foam mounting the seahorse, the flower heads and the focal image of the main punky flower.

Lastly, I die cut some cogs.

Then the last finishing touches mounted on to gold mirror card and on to my base card. Voila!

Hope you are all keeping well

Kim x

concertina book by Veronica

my final share this month is the small concertina book, with flowers on one side and underwater bits on the other. I risked sanity by playing with editing effects and managed to brighten the photos up a bit, but the colours look a bit pale now.
I cheated and used the strip of ready scored drawing cartridge from the craftalong pack as the base , and coloured both sides using distress oxides and water on my craft mat.
I cut pieces of drawing cartridge for the panels and covers, and inked the covers to match the base piece.
Images stamped in black versafine ink and coloured with watercolour pencils , apart from the cog image which was randomly inked with distress oxide pads.
You will be relieved to hear that the scanner is now talking to the computer - well, I am anyway!- so better pix next time.

Bouncing Birds (by Pat)

Hi everyone here is another post from our Guest Design Team member Pat, she has created a fabulous Steampunk themed card for your inspiration.

Pat writes:

Hi everybody, this is my last post and I am using the Steampunk Birds and a little flower from Punky Flowers. I have used black permanent ink, Distress Inks, dimensional glue gel, a blending tool and decoupage scissors.

I started by stamping the little chick three times on to white card using the black permanent ink and then watercoloured the three images with a yellow, orange and brown Distress Ink. I cut them out and used the whole image, then minus the egg to the right, then just the wing, followed lastly by just the shell over the chick. I decoupaged using the glue gel which gives it a nice 3D look. I then stamped the little birds and sentiments on to a 4" square piece of white card using more black ink and coloured them using a turquoise Distress Ink applied with a waterbrush. I then blended more orange and brown Distress Ink around the edges and added the decoupaged image to the centre.

Next I cut a piece of white card a little smaller than the square card and stamped the larger double bird image on a spring and also the corkscrew birds image which I thought fitted in nicely with the theme of the card, again using more of the black permanent ink. I then infilled with a small cog image from Steampunk Birds and the smallest flower image from Punky Flowers using yellow Distress Ink and finished with more yellow and orange and a small amount of brown Distress Ink blended around the edges.

Thank you for joining me here for the last three weeks and I hope that you have enjoyed my take on these really lovely and fun steampunk themed stamps.

With Best Wishes,

Pat.

Quick Gelli Print Cards (by Judith)

Hello everyone, I have a couple of cards to share using the stamps featured on last month's TV shows on Hochanda. Both cards follow the same basic recipe, but with a few tweaks here and there, I have created two very different cards, one for a male and one for a female recipient.

If you have a spare afternoon, create a few gelli print backgrounds, or rummage through some of the backgrounds that you have already made to see if you have something suitable for this project. I simply used a brayer to apply two colours of Distress Ink to the gelli plate, then stamped a dotty tool over the top to get the background effect before pulling the prints. You could press bubble wrap onto the gelli plate for a similar effect.

For my first card, I stamped and embossed a couple of cog images from the Punky Flowers stamp plate along the bottom of the background, using gold embossing powder. I stamped an image from Steampunk Funky Fish and added a sentiment from Punky Expressions, using Archival Ink. I coloured the images using Koh-I-Noor watercolour pencils. Finally, I edged the background with blue Distress Ink.

For my second card, I created the background in exactly the same way, and then stamped an image from Punky Flowers using Archival Ink. I masked the flowers and stamped the image again a few times using Versafine Clair in a toning orange colour. I added a sentiment from Punky Expressions, and coloured the images with pencils as before. Before I attached my background to the card, I edged it with pink Distress Ink.

Punky Expressions is a very versatile stamp set, with words for lots of different occasions. These cards will be great for lots of different purposes, and can be sent to cheer someone up, just because, or for a particular reason. I hope that you will be inspired by my projects and try the ideas out for yourselves.

Thanks for stopping by,

Judith xx

Punky flowers, fish and birds by Rachel

Hello there. Rachel here again with a few more samples from the December shows.

In this first one I used an image from the Punky flowers sheet and teamed it with a sentiment from the punky expressions sheet. The flowers were coloured with water colour pencils.

In this one the background was created by brayering ink on a round gelli plate and printing it. Then I added a punky flowers image and coloured it with pencils before adding a sentiment from the punky expressions sheet.

This one has a brushos background tht I stamped the bird over - I then coloured it in using inks then painted the water before finally adding punky expression sentiment.

My canvas was a bit of a labour of love - the background was done mainly using foam and my fingers with acrylic paints from various sources! Once dry I added the funky fish and steam punk sea world stamps that I had stamped, coloured and fussy cut. I added them and overpainted using a gloss medium.

Finally my free standing piece - for this I used the funky fish and some punky flowers on a monolith - both images were coloured using acrylic paint.

I hope this has given you more ideas as to how to use your stamps!
Hugs

punky flowers by Veronica

sharing some samples from last month's CB show on Hochanda - apologies for the poor photos, had to take them in a rush in rather poor light as the scanner refused to have anything to do with the computer after an upgrade, grrr.

Both using the same stamp from the
punky flowers sheet, just changing the size of the card by .5" magically gave me the square in the centre rather than a mess of stems that needed the circle sentiment!
I do use a stamping platform for these, makes it so much easier!
Edging on both cards using a marker pen, and images coloured with watercolour pencils.

This one has a distress ink background, just  to make a change from brusho, image stmaped in black versafine and coloured with pencils again

The box lid was triple embossed with copper EP, the large flower from the same set stamped into the EP while it was still hot

Flying In To Land (by Judith)

Hello everyone, I have a project to share with you today, featuring stamps from last month's TV shows on Hochanda.

I love a bit of steampunk every now and then, and these sets are amongst my favourites. I have created a garden scene using flowers from the Punky Flowers stamp set, stamped onto tissue paper, coloured with pencils, and adhered to a painted canvas with matte medium. I then stamped the owl from Steampunk Birds onto a piece of drawing cartridge and attached the image with wet glue.

The sentiment is from Punky Expressions.

Thanks for stopping by,

Steampunk birds by Rachel

Good Morning! Its time for my first post of a new year. Here's hoping its going to be a good year - and a post with some inspiration involved! Today I am sharing some makes from the December shows - I love these stamps and have been waiting for them to come to Hochanda - I'll step you through how I made each card.

In this first one I started by creating the landscape using masks and ink then overstamped with punky flowers plus one of the steampunk birds. I coloured them in using water colour pencils. The sentiment came from the Punky Experssions sheet.

In this one I first used a mask and some inks to create the arch then I added the cockerel from the steam punk birds set and coloured him using water colour pencils. The sentiment came from the Punky Expressions sheet.

To make this card I used lots of images from the steampunk birds sheet and stamped them on kraft in versamark and set using white embossing powder before fussy cutting. For the background I used versamark on black card with the punky flowers then brushed over luscious powders. Finally I added the fussy cut images and a sentiment from the punky expressions set.

For this final card I created the background using a stencil and brushos. The bird was stamped separately and fussy cut and added. Finally I added the sentiment from the punky expressions sheet.

I hope this has given you some inspiration as to how to use your stamps.
Hugs

Two Floral Projects (by Sandra)

Hello everyone, I am sharing two pieces for my second blog post with you today.

My first is a card made with the Pretty Poppies stamp set.
I started with a 6" x 6" piece of cream card and stamped the gorgeous poppies twice with Archival Ink, varying the height a little. I then coloured them with pencils and added a blending solution to soften the edges. I blended Tea Dye Distress Ink around the edges of the card and used the same colour with the crackle stamp from Echoes of Italy stamp set to give an aged feel to the card. I added the sentiment and mat and layered with blue and black card onto an 8" x 8" cream card.

My second is a mixed media piece.
I started with an 8" x 8" canvas board and brayered blue, green and beige acrylic paints randomly onto it. I then stamped the tall cog flowers from Punky Flowers onto the canvas and embossed with copper embossing powder. I stamped the flower heads from the same set with Memento Ink onto some smooth card and coloured with alcohol pens. I fussy cut these out and then added more embossing powders to give a verdigris look. I added two little birds, the birdhouse and sentiment from Steampunk Birds stamp set. I finished with a few metal cogs. I think this one will be decorating my craft room!

Thanks for looking,

Sandra.

One for the Scrap Book

Well we are now into May, doesn't the time just go. And this month we have a return guest deisgner, Gerrina, who will be inspiring us with three beautiful projects.  Her first this week is a scrapbook layout, which makes a nice change for CB. So here we go, over to Gerrina.

So glad that it is my turn for Guest designers-posts at Chocolate Baroque! Three weeks in a row I  have some projectsfor you.
My first project is a Lay Out, just to show you how easy you can use the stamps from Chocolate Baroque for one:

Materials:

  • Stamps: Tangled Fragments and Punky Flowers
  • Ink: Memento Bahama Blue and Lady Bug, Distress Ink Salty Ocean, Cracked Pistachio, Fossilized Amber and Mustard Seed
  • Other: White scrap paper, cardboard from a cookies package, blending tool, watercolour paper, waterbrush, yellow and red cardstock

  • Mat the photo on yellow and red cardstock.
  • Stamp the background stamps in blue, green and yellow Distress and Memento ink, so that they form a frame for the matted photo.
  • Stamp the flowers and steampunk cogs with their base behind the photo randomly.
  • Stamp the steampunk tulip twice in red and once in blue on a piece of stamping paper and colour them with a waterbrush and cut them out.
  • Colour the carrogated cardboard blue with the blending tool and Blue Distress Ink and cut it in pieces just as you need.
  • Glue the cardboard, the photo and the coloured tulips on the lay out.

Hope you liked this first project, I shall be here again next week.
Creatieve groetjes,

Table Decoration (by Magda)

My second post for a Halloween party will give you some ideas for decorating the table.

I started with the napkin rings

  1. Stamp the large border stamp of Dusky Damask with Versafine Onyx Black first on a sheet of paper, in order to have less colour on the rubber stamp
  2. Put a coat of Soft Relief Paste Copper on the stamp and let it dry completely for about 24 hours or more
  3. Remove the shape from the rubber stamp and trim the excess
  4. Glue the ends of the shape to form a ring
  5. Repeat points 1 to 4 for the second napkin ring
  6. Stamp the cat from the Twilight Zone stamp set with Versafine Onyx Black twice, and cut the images out
  7. Glue one cat on each ring as decoration
Place card
  1. Cut a piece of cardstock 21cm x 6.3cm, score at 7.5cm (front) - 4.5cm - 7.5cm - 1.5cm
  2. Colour the front portion with Distress Stain Brass and Carved Pumpkin
  3. Stamp the cat from the Twilight Zone set stamp with Versafine Onyx Black
  4. Fold the cardstock at the score lines
  5. Blend Distress Inkpad Black Soot on the small 1.5cm fold (front side) with the sponge
  6. Write the name of your guest on it
Pot
  1. Use a white small pot
  2. Colour the inside and the border of the pot with acrylic black paint
  3. Repeat points 1 to 3 of the napkin ring
  4. Glue the shape on the pot
  5. Stamp with Versafine Onyx Black twice the cat from theTwilight Zone stamp set and cut the images out
  6. Stamp with Distress Inkpad Picket Fence three times a flower from the Punky Flowers stamp set and cut the images out
  7. Use the decoupage flower as a mask and cut again 3 flowers from black cardstock, as the back of the flower to cover the stick
  8. Assemble and glue the flowers on the sticks
  9. Fill the pot with raffia, put the flowers inside and the black cat on the raffia as decoration

I had fun in preparing these projects for you.

Floral Steampunk Stepper Card using Punky Flowers (by Anne)

I was lucky enough to grab the special offer ‘Stash Box’ from Chocolate Baroque before they flew off the shelves. There was so much stash included I couldn’t believe it. The Lucky Dip stamp sets that I received were right up my street, Steampunk and sewing themed sets, and I didn’t already have them. How lucky was I! I got all of this for just over the cost of one A4 stamp sheet. I will be busy for some time with this lot.

I just had to create something using the Punky Flowers stamp set included. I made this stepper card for a friend and he loved it.

Materials: Summary of Methods Used:
  1. I used dies to create the stepper card and mats for layering and stamping. Small gears were die cut from Kraft card for embellishing. I used an embossing folder to create the gear textures.
  2. Images were stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with fine gold powder.
  3. The main image was masked using Pebeo Drawing Gum. I really love this masking fluid. It is water soluble while wet so cleaning up brushes is so easy and there is no nasty rubbery ammonia smell that some masking fluids give.
  4. I coloured the backgrounds with Distress inks. I also randomly heat embossed some of the textured gears with a mix of the gold, copper and verdigris embossing powders.
  5. When completely dry I removed the drawing gum (it rubs off really easily) and coloured the main image and smaller images using Distress Inks and water on a brush. The smaller images were cut out for decoupage.
  6. Layers were then glued to the card blank. 3D glue gel was used for the embellishments to give added depth.
  7. As this was for a friend I created a personalised sentiment mini tag to finish the card.

Dreamy Steampunk travel (by Miranda)

Hi there lovely people,

For now my last blogpost....again with one of the images of the Steampunk travel sheet. This time I have used the mobile phone.......the lovely ornament from the Steampunk Butterfly sheet and some gears from the Steampunk Christmas and the Punky flowers sheet. All gorgeous sheets which combine with each other perfectly. And of course there are more Steampunk sheets at CB.....just type steampunk into the search area and you will see them all!

Here is the card.....
I have made an inky background using fluid inks and stamped the ornament twice in each corner. I have coloured the mobile phone using color pencils and embossed the gears using copper embossing powder.

a close-up......I have coloured the gear on the telephone using a copper gelli-pen.

Hope to have set your' gears' in motion with this steampunk inspiration and I will just say we will ' see' each other again in blogland or somewhere in digital space! I just can't leave the Chocolate Baroque scene.........
Thanks for all your lovely comments and encouragement through the years!
We sure will meet again on our creative path!

Steampunk Funky Fish/Steampunk Sea World By Florence

Hi everyone

I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas.

Today I would like to share some cards made using some of the fabulous little creatures from the Steampunk Funky Fish and Steampunk and Sea World Stamp sets

These stamp sets are so addictive and such great images to craft with.  The more I use them the more I love them.

The stamps really work in lots of styles whether you want a more simple style of project or whether you want to get inky and create an imaginary underwater scene.

The images also work so well with other Chocolate Baroque Rubber Stamps so you can mix and match the stamps to create your own unique little master pieces.

I made all of these cards in the same way.
If you are new to stamping these cards may look complicated but they are not when you know the order of layers of the colors and stamping.

First stamp your main images that you wish to appear at the forefront of your project ie., the sea monster or the jelly fish.
Mask the images with either a paper or a liquid mask.
Leave the mask on until the near the end.
Using some Cut-n-Dry foam, colour the whole piece of card (over the masked image) with Distress Inks of the colors of your choice.  Start with a lighter color and then build your colors up.
Take a stencil or mask and place it over the piece.
Take a darker or a complimentary colored Distress Ink and sponge (over the mask) in areas of your choosing and leave to dry.
Now you can start stamping other images ie., the cogs or background patterns.
If you wish to multi-stamp ie., stamp the same images over the top of each other then it is best to start stamping with a lighter coloured ink first and then use a darker ink to stamp over the top. This helps to create a little bit of depth.  Please see the top of the first card above as an example.
When you have added all of the color and all of the additional stamping you can then take the masks off and color your images and add the highlights.

Tip: Optional -  I fix my ink with a spray fixative and then I add a coat of Mod Podge before I add the high lights. The Mod Podge makes the colors more vibrant.  It also stops the colored ink from contaminating your high lights.

Please feel free to case any of the projects on this post if you wish to.

Thank you for looking.

Wishing you all Health and Happiness for 2015
Florence x
