Making Flat Cards (by Zoe)

Good morning Lovelies, what a fabulous October we had with the weather, hard to believe it's November already.

This morning I'm showcasing 2 of my samples from last month's shows on Hochanda featuring these gorgeous stamp sets.
These are both flat, no cutting out whatsoever, but look 3D!

My first card I made a mask with masking tisue from the website,
(if you don't have this, I highly recommend you get some, it's amazing stuff!)
Anyway, I masked the edges with stencil tape, I then stamped the first butterfly in black Versafine inkpad and heat embossed with clear embossing powder, and used the tissue to create the background behind the main image using a grey inkpad. I used a charcoal pencil on the right side of the butterfly and smudged to get a shadow effect, which lifts the butterfly off the page. I then coloured using watercolour crayons. The sentiment was stamped onto some Washi tape and mounted onto card to add another 'Pop' of colour.

My second card I started by creating a colourful background with dye inks applied to an acrylic block and spritzed with water, building up the colours. Once it was all dry and I was happy with the colour, I stamped this gorgeous flower randomly and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I then carefully painted around the flowers using Gesso, and to finish off used a script style sentiment to add some texture.
I found this technique in a magazine, it's great I've used it several times, it's so effective because it looks like the flowers have been decoupaged!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit, I love to read your comments, see you later again this month.
Have a wonderfully creative day xx Zoe xx

  2. Two fabulous cards Zoe. I was lucky enough to win this stamp sheet at a recent Stamp Magic show, so many thanks for the inspiration. It’s a gorgeous stamp set and I hope to be sharing some of my cards with you all very soon. I love the monochromatic effect of your first card and the total contrast of the second with its beautiful vivid colours x

  3. Two beautiful cards Zoe and love the sort of spotlight technique you have used on the first to keep the background neutral and colour the pretty butterfly, and it definitely looks 3D with the shading to one side, great masking to create the background too. I love the technique on the second with the gessoed background too which makes the flowers stand out so prettily. x
