As Free As A Bird and A Little Bird Told Me - Cards and a 10 minute tag By Florence

A big warm welcome if this is your first visit to the Chocolate Baroque blog.

Today I would like to share with you two cards and a very quick tag made using the new "As Free As A Bird" and "A Little Bird Told Me" rubber stamps Sets.

My second card is very similar in design as the first.

To make these cards

Apply some Distress Ink to white card stock using a foam sponge and then lightly spritz with water and let dry.
Stamp the floral branches and color.

Stamp the bird and the bird cages, color the images and cut them out.

Make up the cards as seen using foam pads or silicon to attach the bird and the cages.

The Floral Branches are a stamp from the Clear Set "Lily Pad".

My last project for today is a really quick tag.

To make this tag

Apply some Distress Ink to the tag using a foam sponge.

Lightly spritz with water and dry.

Take a circle stencil and apply some Distress Ink using a foam sponge.

Move the stencil to another position on the tag and apply more Distress Ink.

Stamp the bird cages and add a hint of color.

Stamp the tail feathers of one of the birds to add a flourish pattern.

Stamp the sentiments and mat and layer it.

a bit a la Monet.......by Miranda

 Hi there,

Today two cards made with the new Buddha sheets from Chocolate Baroque. You already know they are up to my street, they are so lovely to play with........ When I've used a Crafters stencil on the background..... stamped and coloured the images....I thought it looked a bit like the paintings of Monet......just a little bit.....I've used a great product, Crystal gel hologram from Viva Decor. It's a transparant gel with glitter and pieces of mica and it has a lovely sparkly shine. I've used one of my favorite Crafters stencils 'Cell theory'

And the 2nd card, also made on a background with the acrylic bloc technique using the same stencil and a product called Viva Decor Kristall hologram gel. I've used also some of the lovely Memorybox dies. 

For a better view at the structure ......doesn't it have a great sparkly effect?

Reflections of India (posted by Elaine)

I am loving working with these Indian themed stamps and working with silhouettes is one of my favourite techniques, especially when combined with ink shading as I have done here. This card uses the Taj Mahal image from the Indian Textiles stamp set. I wanted to create a feeling of peace and tranquility and the sun setting over water.

I started by stamping my image in Cobalt Blue Archival ink. I added the reflection by stamping into acetate and laying it ink side down under the original stamped image to transfer the ink and make the reflection. I then masked the sun using two circles die cut out of Eclipse tape. I masked off the top of the card above the horizon first using post it notes and then added pink, lilac and pale blue dye inks inks and added hills using a torn piece of paper and Eggplant ink. All my ink shading is done using Cut and Dry foam, working to build layer on layer of ink and depth and range of colour. Once the sky was complete, I moved the masking and then inked below with shades of turquoise and blue and added the reflection of the hill with more Eggplant ink. I added some touches of darker blue here and there in the water to get a more watery effect. I stamped the water lillies from the Lily Pad clear stamp set and added birds from the Landscape Edges set. I added colour to the lilies with Prisma coloured pencils. I finished with a lattice work die cut border which made me think of looking out of a window in a ancient building with pierced stonework.

Good morning, Claire here with another sample featuring the fab new Eastern Landscapes stamps. Anyone who know me will tell you that I love creating scenic cards to these stamps are right up my street. For this card I've combined the new stamps with the lovely hanging lanterns from Lily Pad

I began by creating a background using shades of green distress ink (Forest Moss, Peeled Paint and Shabby Shutters) and then overstamped with the large floral branches stamp from Lily Pad.

The create the focal image I masked a large sun and created the sky with shades of blue and purple distress ink, adding splashes of water to create a cloudy effect. I then inked in the ground using more forest moss and peeled paint distress ink. I then used the reverse of the sun mask to cover the sky and inked in the sun using Mustard Seed and a little Spiced Marigold distress ink. I then used black soot to ink all around the scene. Next came the stamping, I stamped in the beautiful pagoda and the trees using versamark ink and embossed them with a black holographic embossing powder. I then stamped the hanging lanterns along the top and embossed with the same embossing powder. I also stamped the lanterns on some scrap card, coloured with distress markers and cut them out, layering them up on the focal image with silicone glue.

Asian Light (by Clare)

Hello!  Welcome to the Chocolate Baroque Blog!

For this card, I used two of the clear acrylic block-mount stamp sets, called Lily Pad and Chinese Lanterns.  These two sets go along with Moonlit Waterfall and Oriental Crane.  The main focal lantern was stamped in Versamark ink on black cardstock, then heat embossed in black for dimension.  I painted the inside of the lantern with bleach and used a white gel pen on the flowers.  I used a light green marker for the leaves. 

NOTE:  When using bleach, pour a little into a bleach-proof cup (I used a small glass cup), and it needs to be used right away, because it loses its potency quickly.  If you are using synthetic brushes to paint with bleach, you may notice that the bleach will "eat" the bristles, and you'll soon be painting with a stub.

The lantern was mounted on white cardstock with dimensionals, and then with dimensionals over the lantern trio.  I took a larger tassel from my stash apart, and used just a few strands to make this small tassel to fit.  A friend gave me a whole "bolt" of chain, which I glued onto the card with Aleene's Tacky Glue.  I had a fall garland with the golden yellow balls and fabric flowers on it, and this one came off, and I found it on the floor.  You never know where you'll find something to use on a project!  I hope you're inspired in some small way!

Asian Theme

In this closeup, you can see the brown fuzz on the cattails, and the some of the dimension on the card.

This bird was colored in with markers first, then I used Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter to fill parts in.

Lily Pad Scene

The card above was partly drawn, partly stamped.  It's one of the things I love about stamping - a few hand drawn lines can give you a whole new look and that makes your stamps even more versatile.

In the video below I show you a simpler version of connecting up stamped elements to create a scene.  I coloured it, and the one above, with Aquamarkers.   I also added coloured pencil over the top with a deliberate stylised look of the dark edges against the pale colours.


Aquamarkers contain watercolour paint which means they behave differently to ink based markers which tend to soak into the paper much quicker.  Watercolour blends in a different way and can even be 'lifted' with kitchen towel if you make a mistake.  For scenes like this, I like the Aquamarkers for the way the pigments react to water and create a natural, painterly look, as opposed to the even flat colouring you get with Copics or Promarkers.

Of course, if you are in a hurry or not confident with creating your own scenes, there's a beautiful one all done for you on Moonlit Waterfall - isn't this a gorgeous stamp.
