trifold babushka (by Veronica)

This was an experiment, which i ended up quite liking....

I started by making a trifold card from a sheet of white A4 card, using my old Groovy card maker, and marked a point 2" up from the bottom of the left hand corner. I marked a  diagonal line  from this point to the top right hand corner of the second fold.

The backing papers were made next, using distress ink onto a blending mat and spraying with water and mopping up with white card.
As far as I remember, I used wild honey, barn door and peeled paint inks.
Once this was dry, I cut it into 3 panels before stamping.

The buildings were stamped in the centre of one panel and at the bottom of another using vintage photo distress ink, which was then used with a waterbrush to add shading - once it was dry, I added a few white highlights with a pen.



the babushka dolls were first stamped onto masking tissue and cut out, then stamped onto the last piece of background towards the bottom of the card in the centre. I stamped the two smaller dolls first, masked them off, stamping the largest doll behind them.
They were coloured with a waterbrush, this time using wild honey, barn door and vintage photo inks.

I cut the panel with the dolls to fir the width of the card front and glued it down, The tricky bit then was to cut the card on the diagonal line whilst  remembering to cut around the dolls - a beheaded mother doll doesn't look good!

I lined the panel with the larger building up behind the dolls before trimming it to fit the second fold of the card, the trimmed the third panel to fit the back of the card.

the colours in the scan of the folded card are the more accurate, the sunlight rather bleached out the colours in the photos.

Harebell Butterfly - By Florence

Thank you to everyone for leaving comments on the previous posts, we always love to hear from you.

Today I wanted to share some cards I made using the beautiful Harebell Butterfly stamps.  A huge congratulations to Sue on another incredible set of stamps.

For my first card I have gone for different layers. A bit of this and a bit of that.  This is a great way to use some of those little bits that you put to one side for...."that might come in" moment.

One of my hot picks to go with the Harebell Butterfly and the Briar Rose Butterfly stamps are the Vintage Tag printable downloads designed by Lesley Wharton.

I stamped my image, using Black Archival Ink onto one of the Vintage Tags I had printed off in preparation.

I colored the image using water color crayons, just applying the color onto the dry surface and then blending it with a lightly damp paint brush.

I trimmed my stamped vintage tag to size and scuffed up the edges with a blade of a knife and sewed it to a piece of blue backing paper.

I then assembled the card as seen. 

Tip: I never apply glue, foam tabs or tape to the very edges of my pieces.  That way I can slot little pieces of ephemera in where I want to and when necessary.

For my next cards I have gone for CAS style cards.

For this card I used the little Rose Hip stamp off the sheet.  I did carefully, so that I can still use it, slice the butterfly off this stamp.  No disrespect was intended to Sue.  

I love this little stamp. I know it is one that will come out time and time again.

All I did to make this card was to stamp the image randomly around the edge of a piece of trimmed to size white coated card stock using Black Archival Ink.

  I colored the image in using my jumbo felt pens.  The rose hips reminded me of blue berries hence the color choices.

I assembled the card as seen and adding a stamped Birthday Greetings sentiment to finish it off.

For the final card, I used the same Rose Hip stamp again.  I stamped the Rose Hip image onto white coated card stock using Black Archival Ink.  I masked the image and stamped over it, using dark Blue Archival Ink, with the script from one of my all time favorite sets the Eccentric Edwardian.  I colored the image with some felt pens.

I made a frame using dies, edged it in gold.

I scored the bottom edge of the card using a score board and assembled it as seen, using foam pad to raise the frame.
