Birdcage Collage (by Carole)

Hello everyone, today sees the first of three posts from our regular Guest Design Team member Carole Cann. Carole has created a beautiful card using one of our lovely collage stamps.

Hello everyone.

I am pleased to be doing another GDT slot and will have three projects for you over the next three weeks, using some of the older stamps. Hope you enjoy looking at them.

My first sample uses Birdcage Collage, a lovely stamp which is very versatile and much used.

You will find some other samples on my blog page.

I have stamped onto black card with Versamark Ink and embossed with silver embossing powder, then coloured the image with pearlescent paints. The left hand edge has been cut away around the cages.

The edging uses one of the Floral Edges stamps and again is stamped with Versamark and silver pearlescent powder brushed over. I sealed this with a quick spritz of cheap hairspray.

The words are from the Loving Sentiments stamp set.

I hope you like this stamp as I have had fun using it again.

Lazy Days and Purple Haze by Penny

Goodly morning peeps, I hope you are all well and happy.   I am here with the first of this month's DT posts featuring the beautiful stamps from last months shows.  These two cards feature a couple of the lovely tree images, one of my favourite subjects to stamp!

Lazy Days

I have used images from the Trees A Crowd, Floral Edges and Country Views sets, Distress Inks, Black Versafine ink and clear embossing powder.

I stamped and embossed the tree with hills image onto white card, then did the same with a sunset image, placing it next to the tree.  I then joined the images up with a black fine liner pen, and extended the hills.  I painted the images with Distress Inks, and used a watercolour ink for the sky. I added clouds with a white charcoal stick.

I stamped the grassy edge image along the bottom of the panel then blended ink around the edges.  I matted the panel onto black card and attached it to a white base card.  I stamped and embossed a sentiment, die cut it, added some ink around the edges and attached it to the card.  I added a couple of die cuts and gems from my stash to complete the design.

This project also uses stamps from the Trees A Crowd set, Distress Inks and white Gesso.  I wanted to create a misty morning effect for this one, I began with a piece of white card and placed a circular mask near the top.  This will create a sun.

 Using a scenic mask and Distress Inks I created a landscape in several hues of purple, with a pale lavender sky.  I used a dry paint brush to gently add white gesso to create a misty effect.  I then stamped a tree using black ink, and stamped another one next to it without re-inking, pushing it  behind the first tree.  I then stamped the smaller tree in second generation ink, making it appear in the distance.  I used DIs to ground the first two trees.

I matted the focal panel onto purple card, then stamped the small tree around the edges of a white base card.  I turned the image around at each stamping to create a lovely patterned border.  I attached the panel to the base card and added a small sentement panel.

Edged Perfectly (by Julie)

Hello, my cards for today are created with Decorative Edges, Floral Edges , Amazing Mackintosh Words and Butterfly Lady

I love Chocolate Baroque's Edge collection as they have so many uses. You can use them as the main feature of a design or as the name suggests, edge your finished design.

To start with I inked up the harlequin diamond design from Decorative Edges with a blue dye based ink and stamped it top and bottom of my card. Don't worry about the middle looking messy as that is covered by the black card-stock strip and stamped sentiment from Amazing Mackintosh Words. Once you have your background, ink up the leaf design from Floral Edges with Onyx Black Versafine and stamp over the top of harlequin background. Then do the same for the grass edging at the bottom of the design. 

Trim the card, mount onto black card-stock, before attaching to the front of your card blank.

The flower border from Floral Edges which has been stamped top and bottom on this DL card, matches really well with the Butterfly Dress. I stamped the Butterfly Dress onto spare card-stock before colouring with Polychromus pencils. Once coloured I buffed the design with a soft cloth to blend the colours and create the soft edging that surrounds the Butterfly Dress lady. The design was then cut out and matted onto black card-stock before attaching to the front of the DL card. The sentiment is from Amazing Mackintosh Words which was stamped with Onyx Black Versafine before being cut out and mounted onto black card-stock.

A stepper and using gold relief paste (by Rachel)

Hello there! Rachel here with a couple of cards from the September shows. The first is made using the auricula script stamp and one from the floral edges set. The card is a ready made stepper that I decorated using distress inks then added the auricula stamp as a topper.

In this second one I used the gold soft form relief paste on the birdcage collage. I love this stuff - you just spread it on, wait around 24 hours then once dry, peel it off! I have used the decorative edges stamp at the base of the card and stamped in flitterglu and added flake. I think the two techniques compliment each other.

Autumn Ball by Penny

Hello peeps I hope you are all well.  I'm here again to share another of my samples from last month's

shows, so grab a cuppa and spend a few crafty minutes with me.


 I have used several stamps for this design, Butterfly Dress, a sentiment from Loving Sentiments, and some flowers from Floral Edges.   I also used Distress Inks, alcohol pens, glitter, black Versafine ink, clear EP and a die from my stash.

I stamped the Butterfly Dress image onto white colouring card using black ink, and embossed it with clear powder.  I coloured the image with pens and added some glitter to the flowers. I masked the image and blended Distress Inks onto the card to create a background.  I then used an edging die along the top and bottom of the panel, and blended ink on the outer edges of the panel.

I matted the focal panel onto black card and set it aside.  I stamped and embossed the floral edges image onto white card and coloured it with the pens.  I cut some of the flowers out as embellishments.  I coloured a white base card with Distress inks, stamped the Floral Border along the top and bottom edges using one of the colours then stamped a sentement in black on one side of the card.  I attached the focal panel and the flowers to the card using 3D foam pads to complete the design.

A Collage of Colour (by Judith)

Hello everyone, I have a mixture of projects to share with you today, showcasing the stamps featured on last month's TV shows from Hochanda.

My first project uses the lovely Birdcage Collage stamp as my focal point. I created a colourful background using Brushos spritzed with water, and pressed a piece of crumpled cling film over the top, to add a bit of texture to the background. Once the Brushos had dried, I removed the cling film, and stamped some of the words from the Amazing Mackintosh Words stamp plate over the top, using black ink.

I stamped the Birdcage Collage onto a spare piece of Drawing Cartridge, and coloured the image using water based markers and a water brush. Finally, I cut out the image, and attached it to the background.

For my second card, I created a piece of background using Distress Inks, which I had added to my craft mat and spritzed with water. I picked these up on the Drawing Cartridge a couple of times, drying each layer in between. I coloured a piece of Stampbord with the same colour of inks, and the stamped the deco edge from the Decorative Edges stamp set on both the Stampbord and the background, using a plum coloured ink. To finish, I added a piece of ribbon, and some Little Birdie flowers.

My final sample is a reproduction of one I made a long time ago, however I liked the design, so why not? I stamped the Butterfly Dress image onto a piece of smooth card, and masked the image. I stamped the Floral Edges image across the bottom twice. I added clouds using a stencil and blue ink, but you could use torn paper or a frilly die cut to achieve a similar look.

I stamped the Butterfly Dress image twice again onto spare card, and then coloured the flowers and butterflies, plus the main images all with pencils. I added the extra butterflies to the background flying around the lady, and along the floral border.

Colourful Butterflies (by Zoe)

Good morning Lovelies, I'm back with my final post for this month featuring these beautiful stamps.

My first card I created the background by laying down Sparkle pens onto my mat, spritzed with water and picked up the colour onto my card. Istamped the image twice, once onto my background and second onto a spare bit of card. I coloured both images using Sparkle pens and cut out the flowers and butterflies from the spare card and decoupaged. I used the floral border stamp for the edges, it matches the flowers on the dress perfectly.

Second card I used Distress Inks to colour the card. I then used the Butterfly stencil and used a coordinating colour, dried well then stamped all the sentiments which I carefully stuck to an acrylic block, and heat embossed using white embossing powder. I then used the border stamp to finish it off, again in white embossing powder.

Third card, I made the background using the Shaving Foam technique and simple stamping using Versafine Black ink. I coloured the image using watercolour markers and added glitter to the centres of the flowers. The mat I layered onto was Brushos spritzed with water in coordinating colours.

Monochromatic Butterflies by Brenda

Hello everyone, Brenda here and I hope you are ready for some more inspiration using the stamps Lesley showcased on Hochanda in September.

I rather fancied the idea of making monochromatic card with the lovely Butterfly Dress image so I started by stamping her with Versafine black onto my cardstock, followed by one of the stamps from Floral Edges along the bottom and another from Decorative Edges across the top. Next I used some sticky noted to roughly cover the focal image, masked a sun/moon and flicked some watery Distress Inks. I then stamped the image a couple more times, cut out the Butterflies and added to her skirt, three more fluttering past and some shading around the moon.

A grey board tag was my starting point here which I inked with Distress Inks and used Floral Edges along the bottom and around the top stamped with Versafine Majestic Blue. Some stencilled bricks and flowers stamped from the same stamp set, coloured and arranged on the tag. Finally some ribbon and sentiment from Amazing Mackintosh Words.

After masking a sun I used stamps from Floral Edges joining them to extend across the card using Versafine Olympia Green, sponged some sun rays using a piece of torn paper.........I find it easiest to start from the top and keep moving the paper down so that you can see where you have been. Finally a sentiment from Words of Inspiration, I have had this set for years and it remain a firm favourite which I use repeatedly.

For the background panel I used one of the stamps from Floral Edges, stamped with Versamark, heat embossed with detail white powder and then added Distress Inks. Lady's Slipper Orchid has been stamped with Versafine black onto a piece of card coloured with the same inks. A bow and sentiment from Amazing Mackintosh Words.

Finally one more using Butterfly Dress stamped with Versafine black onto a Distress Oxide background, coloured with pencils and some random background stamping using Decorative Edges. Again the sentiment of from Amazing Mackintosh Words.

Beautiful butterfly dress (by Rachel)

Hello there! I do hope you are well! Its Rachel here today with more inspiration from the September shows. These are some of my samples using the butterfly dress and floral edges stamp sets.

In this one I created an oxide background and overstamped before painting in the details . I stamped the floral edges repeatedly to create a border and added colour similar to the image.

This is a wrap around journal that I created using the beautiful dress stamp in black and white to contrast with the paint colours on the journal.

This final piece is a mini box card that I created. All the colouring has been done using distress inks. Such pretty stamps - I hope I have given you some inspiration in ways to use them.

Tranquil Times (by Judith)

Hello everyone, I have two projects to share using the stamps featured on last month's TV shows on Hochanda.

My first project is a piece of home decor which I created by colouring two pieces of drawing cartridge with Distress Ink in tones of blue and green, blending the colours where they met. To the larger piece, I added background stamping, adding the harlequin edge from the Decorative Edges stamp set, and the bubbles image as well.

On the smaller piece, I created a mask from masking tissue in the shape of the headdress, and placed it on the the background, and stamped the bubbles image through the mask. I then used some blue Koh-i-Noor paint to paint the rest of the image freehand, adding some blue, green and orange shading to complete the image. I added some orange shading around both panels before attaching them to a piece of grey mountboard.

Finally, I stamped the Butterfly Dress image onto a spare piece of card, and coloured the butterflies using green and orange tones, before cutting them out and attaching them to the panel. Some words from the Amazing Mackintosh Words stamp set complete this project.

For my second project, I wanted to create a tranquil scene with a coloured panel spotlighted in the centre. I used torn paper to create the hills and ensured that they lined up on the background and extra panel. I used grey/lilac tones for the larger panel, and greens and blues, with a hint of lilac for the foreground panel. I then added the foliage from the Floral Edges stamp set to complete the project, with a sentiment from the Amazing Mackintosh Words stamp set, as before.

Butterfly garden by Brenda

Good morning Peeps. Brenda here with some more inspiration using the lovely stamps Lesley showcased on Hochanda last month.

My first creation is one using lolly sticks which I glued together to form a stamping case and then coloured with Acrylic Paint after fixing a masked sun in place. Next I stamped the beautiful Butterfly Dress image and stamped her again a few more times so I could decoupage her dress. Using one of the stamps from Floral Edges I added some leaves across the bottom to ground her. Next I coloured everything including the additional flowers and Butterflies and built up her skirt adding a few more flying around her garden.

The next one below features Auricula Script which I stamped onto cardstock coloured with Distress Oxides and heat embossed with Lapis Lazulite embossing crystals. The sentiment strip across the bottom is from Amazing Mackintosh Words.

Some more inkiness with the next one using Distress Oxides and the harlequins from Decorative Edges to create a background and I was fairly liberal with the water spritzed onto the inked stamp to achieve a rather messy and random finish and then inked the edges and heat embossed with detail copper powder. I used the same inks to create a background for the Lady's Slipper Orchid image, stamped with Versamark and used the same embossing powder and bleached out the colour from the bloom.

The background on the next one was a bit of an experiment using a piece of kitchen tissue and alcohol inks to create a background. I then stamped Birdcage Collage with Versafine black and added a little white highlighting.

Stamp as a mould (by Magda)

I wish you all a good morning with my first post of October.
As you can see, my card  today has as a decoration an usual border and to make it I used the stamp as a mould.

Step by step :

1.  Apply some Distress Inkpad Vintage Photo on the stamp Floral Edges, this will give a random
     colour at the background
2.  Cover all the stamp with a coat of Soft Relief Paste
3.  Let dry for one or more days
4.  Peel gently from the stamp the dried film of paste and cut around the edges
5. Stamp on both mats that you will glue on the card, in second and third generation here and there
    the same stamp from Floral Edges, with  Distress Inkpad Vintage Photo
6. With the same colour of inkpad, stamp the sentiments of Amazing Mackintosh Words
7. Assemble the card as shown.

Eastern Skies (by Judith)

Hello everyone, I am sharing more cards with a touch of Eastern promise, using stamps featured on last month's TV shows on Hochanda.

My first two cards came about when I made the backgrounds, which were a mixture of Red, Yellow and Orange Brushos sprinkled onto drawing cartridge and spritzed with water. I also added some Gold shimmer for some added bling. I like to create one piece, and use a second piece of the drawing cartridge to blot the excess liquid off the first, creating a second background for later. Both pieces end up a bit less vibrant, but I do not mind this effect.

When I looked at the backgrounds, they looked as if they had a sandy foreground, and a sunset sky, which made me think about creating some sort of scene with the backgrounds. Every background turns out differently when you are using Brushos, and it was just luck, that these two made me think of making this sort of card.

I cut a square of copy paper, and placed it in the middle of the background, then stamped the paisley image from the Paisley Elephant stamp set all around the edge, using purple ink, to create a border. I used the same ink to add the sentiment from the same stamp set. On my first card, I used the Chocolate Baroque Mask- Silhouette Palace 1, with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink.

On the second version, the card that I demoed for the TV shows, I simply stamped an image from the Indian Textiles stamp set, using a deep plum ink.

These one layered cards will be cheap to send through the post, even though they are a bit larger in size. If you vary the colours, they would be great masculine cards. I have kept them fairly monochrome, if you made them in blues or greens, they would look equally effective.

I am sharing a much older card with you as well, which uses this same image. Long time followers will have seen this card, but I thought that some of our newer viewers would like to see the card as well. I stamped and embossed the building using white embossing powder, and then created the background with inks. I used masks for one side of the background and then the other. I stamped a tree image from the Landscape Edges stamp set along the horizon, and a flower stamp from the Floral Edges stamp in the foreground.

The elephants were stamped onto a spare piece of card, coloured with water based markers, and then decoupaged onto the background.

Babushka Dream (by Magda)

What's the difference between Babushka and Matryoshka ? 

There is no differences if not in the origin of the name, and it is very interesting to read about the tradition and the meaning of these nested dolls. They are special and have their own charm, as the new stamp set of Chocolate Baroque, that  inspired me to do this page.

Step by Step

1.     Put white gesso randomly on a journaling page.

2.     Colour here and there with Distress Crayons using black and white and Hickory Smoke.

3.     Wipe with baby wipes.

4.      Repeat points 2 and 3 till you are happy with the result.

5.      Stamp with Distress Inkpad Ground Espresso the houses of Babushka stamp set.

6.      Stamp with Versafine Onyx Black some grass of the Floral Edges stamp set.

7.      Colour with Distress Broken China through a stencil pattern between the houses.

8.      Colour randomly with white embossing paste or white gesso mixed with gold embossing powder or gold Stickles through Mini Gothic Romance stencil to lighten.

9.      Stamp with Versafine on a separate cardstock the babushka dolls, colour them and cut out the figures.

10.  Cut out some pictures of Moscow in a suitable size.

11.  Stamp the sentiment with black Versafine and glue the dolls, the sentiment and the pictures on the journaling page.

Elephant Walk (by Magda)

As you know Magda joined the Design Team earlier this month and I thought it was about time you knew a little more about her. I put the usual questions I always ask new DT members so here goes.

What what were your first Chocolate Baroque stamps?

I remember that it was a parcel with several stamps : Peacock set, Indian Elephant, Texture Fragments,Serenity and Tranquillity set

What style of stamping do you prefer?

It is quite difficult to say which style of stamps I prefer. Chocolate Baroque stamps are very inviting and it is always a challenge with myself to see the final result of style.

What stamps are on your wishlist?

There are a lot of items  signed in my list, here  just some of them: Floribunda Net Individual, Another Brick in the Walled, Sketchy Doodle Flowers, Sunburst Scenes, Music Fanfare

Can you tell us in one sentence what crafting means to you

I would love to stay all the day in my craft room with ideas to put on paper, using several colours, stamps etc.,  fortunately I have found a good balance between my “world” up stairs, the one down stairs and the one outside.

And now here is Magda's latest project for you using a combination of stamps.

Elephant Walk

Thinking about a Catwalk I named my project “Elephant Walk”. It is easy and nice to realise , even if it is twice to do, one time on the envelope and the second time on the card.

1. Colour the upper part with Distress Inkpad Tumbled Glass for the sky, leaving some white spaces as clouds
2. Use Distress Inkpad  Peeled Paint for the grass.
3. Stamp with Archival black on the left side of the envelope and on the right side of the card one elephant of Indian Elephant.
4. Stamp with Archival black the grass and the plants of Floral Edges.
5. Stamp with Archival black the birds of Landscape Edges clear stamp set
6. Colour the Elephants with Faber-Castell Pencils.
7. Close the envelope and trim its right side to insert the car.
8. Punch a half hole in the middle of the right side of the envelope.
9. Stamp the sentiment that you like on the card and glue a ribbon on the right side to pull it out from the envelope.
