Lace Scrapbook page (posted by Judith)

Hi folks, I thought I'd show you another use for these lovely Lace Fragment stamps recently released by Glenda. I decided to make an 8" x 8" scrapbook page, as this is a size that I am very comfortable working with. My Design Team mate Debbie is a keen quilter, and has been making some lovely quilts lately, and that is what inspired me to make this sample.

I cut four 8" x 2" strips, and embossed each one with a different stamp, three from this stamp set, and one from the Texture fragment set, using white embossing powder. I then cut the strips into 2" squares. I arranged them into a pleasing pattern, and stuck them together with double sided tape on the back. I sewed them together, using zig zag stitch on my sewing machine. I stuck the cotton ends to the double sided tape on the back, and covered the back with another piece of 8" x 8" card.

I stamped and embossed some of the buttons from the Haberdashery stamp plate, and cut these out. I used a suitable Nestability die to create a frame for my photograph, this is my Daughter and my niece. I then stamped the word 'Love' onto a Nestie shape.

This is such a simple page, but the lace background is so pretty, and makes the page really tactile. The buttons are a great little addition, they are going to be such useful stamps.

Thanks for stopping by, Judith xx

  3. Beautiful job, Judith! Your colors are beautiful for little girls, and I love quilts! Your focal images are beautiful too! What a lovely pair of girls!
A few years ago, I was able to go through my grandmother's attic, and found some things that I really treasure. There was an old fabric bag, with wooden handles that really piqued my interest, and I was speechless when I opened it. Inside were 32 12" x 12" quilted squares, with zig-zag edges, all hand-sewn together with little tiny, evenly spaced stitches, and made from my grandmother's clothing, and other things. If I ever get to piecing it together, it will cover my king-sized bed. I don't know how to quilt, but I guess I could figure it out. That's one thing I want to do before I pass on!
There was a dark-colored "crazy quilt" that she made also, that my Aunt Genelle let me have. It is ravelling, and too fragile to launder, so it is put away, but OMGosh, it's gorgeous! She used old clothing in this one also, as well as black velvet. The whole thing is hand-sewn, and has no backing. She made it for my grandpa, and hand-embroidered his initials on it. Each piece is framed to the next with an overlay of hand-embroidery in what seems like 500 different kinds of stitches! There's an embroidered butterfly on it, too. I wonder if that meant something to her or him. The house has since burned down after my aunt and uncle lost it to the bank - my uncle messed up and spent all their money on his girlfriend...another story. I think the fire was set intentionally. Anyway, I have some beautiful things to remember them by.

  5. This is very special & so softly gentle in keeping with the subject. I love the simple button embellishing & the textures that are incorporated by all the patchwork. The placing of the buttons & the sentiment provide a lovely frame for the photo.
