Two little dickie birds (by Debbie)
sitting in a tree (well flowers for my card). The title came from a rhyme my Mum used to say to me, one was called Peter and one called Paul. While making this card they verse constantly went around my head.
This card definitely evolved from the birds I stamped and coloured, I used alcohol pens and triple embossed with clear powder. The background needed to be colourful but dark to help the birds stand out from it. I used salty ocean, peacock feathers and picked raspberry and smooshed them randomly onto white card. The birds needed something to perch on so I reached for the flowers from the Punky Flowers and stamped and coloured them with water colour pencils. I added clear Wink of Stella glitter, I think the photograph shows how rich these pens are with sparkle. To create a border I stamped one of the flower heads with picked raspberry randomly around the edge. Finally, I used a bright pink, black and bright blue card to triple mount, highlighting the colours I used.
Thanks for visiting. Debbie.

I love this card and am going to make it. How do you triple emboss please?
ReplyDeleteHi Trish, when the birds had been coloured I cut them out and laid them colour side down onto a Versamark ink pad and covered with clear embossing powder then heated with a heat gun. When cooled I again placed on the Versamark pad and added another coat of clear powder and heated again. Twice is sometimes enough but I did a third time. I hope this explains and thanks for your comment.

Lovely vibrant card Debbie. Super choice of colours and blend of stamps. Elaine x
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely card and those birds really pop on that background, it's always inspirational to see how different stamp sets can be combined in different ways.

Thank you for describing how this evolved - very helpful & encouraging for me personally. I particularly like the way you perched that left bird on his flower - the claws fit perfectly around the petal & the way he overhangs the matted layers is so effective. The pink 'mist' exuding from your far left deep pinky-red flower also caught my eye & I love the triple matting.

I think the parrots look good perched on the punky flowers, and that lovely rich coloured background -the picked raspberry is the nicest pink - and then more flowers in the background too. It can be difficult choosing the right colours for mounts, but these work perfectly. A beautiful card.
ReplyDeleteFab! Love these Steampunk birds and the colouring on them and your background is gorgeous so rich and lush! TFS x
ReplyDeleteAmazing card, such striking colours I love it and the layers take my eye outward and back again and triple embossing the birds is a great touch too .
ReplyDeleteOh and thanks now I've got the rhyme running around my head, I sing this one to my children like my parents did to me,
