A supporting role (posted by Judith)

Hello everyone, I have a couple of cards to show you today using the sewing stamps in a supporting role, stretching their uses and hopefully letting you see how versatile they can be.

My first card uses one of the lacy borders on a wrinkle free distress background. I added some background stamping using a stamp from the Harlequin Fragments stamp set. I stamped a heart image from the Punky Hearts stamp set onto a piece of scrapbook paper, colouring in some of the details with watercolour pencils, and finally added a sentiment from the Sweet Nothings stamp set onto a die cut.

My second card uses another one of the borders to create a masculine romantic card using the Key to my Dreams stamp set. I stamped one of the locks onto the background before adding the border on either side. I coloured the background with an acrylic wash, and added some shading with Distress Ink around the edges. I coloured the images with pencils and added some background detail with a stamp from the Lace Fragments stamp set.

Thanks for stopping by, Judith xx

  4. Your colour choices in the first sample make this a lovely masculine design & I particularly like the way you used the harlequin fragment to echo the harlequin design of the heart. Using the lock image to echo the lace border's shape is a delightful piece of designing & I particularly like the way you shaded around those elements plus the way you created a really glowing background for the sentiment. The supporting roles you have demonstrated using the sewing stamps really shows how these images can be used to create masculine cards.

  5. Two great designs Judith. I especially like the use of the keyhole in the second with that border, your eye for these design elements is so clever. I love that colouring on the keyhole too, such rich colours as a focal point. The harlequin fragment works really well with the heart and I love the turquoise on the first design. Elaine xxx

  9. Two unusually designed cards Judith but they work so well with the harlequin fragments on the first and then the lace fragments on the second, and I love the punky heart which is a great focal point on the first card and complements the background stamping beautifully and the lace border is so pretty too. The colours and style of the second card is definitely more masculine and the lock with the border is the complements to the rest of the card perfectly. x
