Dramatic Doodles (by Asha)

Good morning, friends. It's my turn to show you what I've been up to with the the Sketchy Doodle Flowers stamps. This time I decided to challenge myself by making simple cards. But since it's Oscar night why go for something bold and dramatic as well. And that led me to the opulence of gold and the simple yet timeless elegance of black.

My first sample is all about textures. I ran the card front through an embossing folder. Next I heat embossed the flowers and leafy element from the Sketchy Doodle Flowers A4 sheet in gold on black card and coloured them in with colour pencils. Next I fussy cut and adhered the leaves down to the card front and popped up the flowers with some foam tape. The sentiment is from the Loving Sentiments A5 sheet, also heat embossed in gold.

For my second card, I decided to make a One Layer Card. Now that was a challenge for me! I started by heat embossing directly on to the card base and colouring in with pencils. I also heat embossed the greeting from the Birthday Words A5 set and it would have been a One Layer Card ... had I stopped there. At the last minute I added a fussy-cut gold-embossed leafy sprig to balance the sun burst.

Gold on black is quite a dramatic and elegant combo. Add to that heat embossing and colour pencils - the possibilities are endless ... and they work so well with these Sketchy Doodle Flowers.

As always, I have more pictures as well as details of products and tools on my blog. Don't forget to swing by often for more crafty inspiration from the rest of the Design Team.

Asha

  3. These are absolutely delightful - as you say - timeless elegance with black & gold. I love the way the texture of the card base adds to the interest in the first but doesn't detract from the boldness of the flowers, just enhances. The sunburst in the second is striking & I like the way your leaf sprig extends over the card perimeter. Your rounded corners on this one softens the design & echoes the leaves beautifully.

  4. This is so pretty Asha and looks so vibrant against the black card and the colouring is beautiful. I love them both but perhaps my favourite is the first with the pretty embossed background. x

  5. How very elegant. I had to read a couple of times that you coloured with pencil as I can't believe the beautiful results you got on the black. The gold touches on both of your cards are elegant and outstanding. I love your work. Now I"m off to read your blog.
