Walled Garden Extended Scene (by Anne)

I created this sample for the recent TV shows from Chocolate Baroque on The Craft Channel. I love scene building stamps and this one is a beauty with the lovely rose draped arch and textured wall.

 

The Walled Garden stamp makes a great scene all on its own but is also great to use alongside the bonus silhouette stamp which fits perfectly into the arch creating added depth to the scene.

  I have used a bit of partial stamping and masking to extend the scene, and the bonus foliage stamp from Another Brick in the Walled Garden set. I hope that you like my offering. Happy crafting, Anne xxx. Materials:

• Walled Garden, and Another Brick In The Walled Garden stamp sets
• A5 card blank, watercolour card
• Ranger Archival Inkpad (Coffee)
• Wax crayons (pale browns), watercolour paints and white gel pen
• Alcohol marker (black) and fine liner pen (brown)
• Adhesive

How it was made:

1. Stamped the scene onto watercolour card.
2. Extended the scene using masking and partial stamping of different elements from the stamp. The left hand side of the scene was extended with the trees and more wall. More trees were placed in the foreground on the right, with more of the wall and pillar behind (while masking the foreground elements).
3. The silhouette tree was repeat stamped into the archway to add more depth, and silhouette foliage added to the foreground. The scene was completed by drawing with the fine liner pen.
4. Coloured with watercolours using wax crayons to add resist highlights to the brickwork and pathway. Used the white gel pen for additional highlights.
5. Edged the card with the black marker to frame and glued to the card front.

Hi everyone, today I am actually posting one of my own pieces of artwork. Seems ages since I was let loose on here! Anyway, this one was designed for the TV show when the stamp launched last month and I made it to demonstrate a couple of new techniques. Bit of a long one, so maybe you need to pull up the chair.

• To create the sky take a piece of 300gsm white cardstock, cut to 5" square. Tap three colours of distress inkpad on to an acrylic block, I used Barn Door, Fossilized Amber and Spiced Marmalade. Spritz with water and then drag the block along the top half of the card.
• For the grass clean the block and repeat the same exercise using Crushed Olive, Bundled Sage and Mustard Seed.  If you want a less 'yellow green' grass then leave out the Mustard Seed. Again spritz with water and drag along the bottom half of the card, allowing the colours to slight overlap the sky.  Set aside to dry thoughly.
• Stamp the Walled Garden on to a self adhesive label with Jet Black Archival ink and colour with Distress inks and a water brush. When dry, cut out. TIP: Don't worry about the trailing rose stems on the top of the wall, you can draw these back in later.
• Peel the backing off the label and position on the background, then trim around the edges.
• To create the walled effect take another piece of 300gsm white card, approx 5" square, an old credit card and Vintage Sepia Versafine ink. Run the long edge of the card through the inkpad and then 'stamp' random lines horizontally across the white card. Keeping reinking the credit card and continue until you have covered in one direction (side to side).
• Now repeat, this time stamping vertically between the horizontal lines. You want this criss-cross stamping to resemble bricks. It doesn't matter if it is uneven. Sponge Old Paper Distress ink around the edges of the card to give an aged appearance.
• To distress around the edge of the card use either a distress tool or run a pair of scissor blades backwards and forwards over each edge to rough up the cardstock.
• To assemble, glue the background to the faux wall and then attach to a 5.5" square blank Kraft card.
• Finally draw back in the trailing rose branches using a black fineliner pen.

I love 'painting' with an acrylic block and of course if you change the colour combinations you can have a winter or a pale summer sky, brilliant green fields or something a little more subdued. Best of all you will always 'paint' a unique background since the inks on the block will spread out on the card differently each time you do it. I hope you will try these techniques and create your own view from the garden wall.

Guest Post - Mixed Media Butterfly by Corine van Kuilenburg

We are already at the second post from Guest Team member Corine and this week she has chosen to combine Chocolate Baroque stamps with Brushos. Enjoy.

Today is my second post as guest designer. I hope you liked my first post. This time I created a mixed media card. 

• First paste on a piece of card stock book paper. Paint this with gesso. Emboss an image from Dusky Damask with clear embossing powder. Use 2 or 3 colours of Brusho and spritz with water. Make sure your whole card  is covered with Brusho. Let everything dry completely.
• Use stencils and inks to add more detail to your background. Stamp with black ink one or two images from Rustic Fragments.
• Emboss the butterfly from Tangled Garden on watercolor paper and color it in with markers and a water brush. Cut out and glue to your background.

Girly Gears and Soft Steampunk (by Asha)

Good morning, friends. I'm back with two projects featuring stamps from the Steampunk Butterfly A5 sheet.

First up is this this feminine number with soft colours. I inked up the background with Distress Inks and stamped the gears from Steampunk Butterfly with light grey ink. Then I heat embossed the large butterfly on purple cardstock with gold embossing powder and popped it up with foam tape.  The sentiment is from Patchwork Landscape A4 sheet.

My second card is a striking red-black-white combo. For this card I stamped the quarter lace fragment from the Steampunk Butterfly A5 sheet to form a complete circle and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. And voila - a lace doily! Keeping it simple with a sentiment from the  Pretty Poppies A5 sheet, heat embossed in red onto a piece of vellum. In keeping with the focal image, I also rounded the corners of the card.

There you have it - my feminine take on the steampunk style. I hope you'll have fun playing with these stamps.

Two Butterflies (by Judith)

Hello everyone, I love to revist old stamp sets, to mix them up with newer sets, and to use materials that I did not have the first time around. The Steampunk Butterfly stamp set featured on the recent Craft Channel TV shows is no exception; it is a really versatile stamp set, with some lovely stamps in the set.

I created a background using gelatos, and then stamped the cog fragment using Distress Ink. I used some pretty background papers from the Crafty Individuals range to create a bit of paper weaving, and also stamped and embossed two of the large butterflies onto the same papers, using silver embossing powder. I stamped a sentiment from the Awesome Diva clear stamp set onto the background. Finally, I used some co-ordinating card to mat and layer the background.

Steampunk travel (by Miranda)

Hi there,

Today another one of my Steampunk travel posts. I have used both the Steampunk travel and the Steampunkery sheets. I have mad a background using Brusho and Bister pigment powders onto water based paper (300 grs.). It creates a real old and worn look.

I have stamped both sizes of the balloon and used all of the words which are on both sheets. I have colored them with pencils and added some gear die cuts.

walled garden

this is a BIG stamp, almost 5" across, and easily makes a card on it's own.
I stamped using black versafine onto white card, and also onto masking tissue. I cut out the archway from the masking tissue, and masked off the rest of the image so that I could create a scene in the archway using the mini tree stamp that comes as an extra.I used distress ink for the tree, stamping aagain without re-inking for the further tree and using a waterbrush to drag the colour out to make the grass. A tiny bit of tumbled glass added for the sky with the waterbrush.
The main image was coloured with a waterbrush to pick up watercolour markers scribbled onto an acrylic block.
Image cut to size, matted onto an olive green card, then onto a base of watercolour paper coloured with brusho powders that I had lying around that just seemed to go with the colours I had used.
The white base card was 15x15cm, and was complately coverd by the watercolour paper.

Steampunk skies (posted by Claire)

Good morning folks, Claire here with a steampunk themed card. I've used stamps from Steampunk Travel to create this card which would be great for someone perhaps leaving work or going on their travels.

I began with some ivory linen card and inked around the edges with some Black Soot Distress Ink. I took some dictionary pages and cut out some cloud shapes and again inked them with a little black ink before glueing them onto the linen card.

I stamped the images with versamark ink and embossed with Gold embossing powder and added some colour with a little more black ink. I cut the images out and layered them up with 3D foam pads. The words were stamped in black ink, cut out and again inked around the edges with black ink. to finish off  I layered the linen card over some glitter card and popped some gold faux pearls in the corners.

Shuttered window by Zoe

Hello again, my turn to showcase another one of the gorgeous new stamps, this time it's The Shuttered Window, check out the fabulous stamps from Chocolate Baroque

I heat embossed using a Versamark inkpad and Black fine detail embossing powder onto watercolour card, I used liquid watercolour inks like a wash across my card, very slapdash, I used a silver ink to add some highlights and a bit of shimmer and just added some light and shade by faux bleaching in some places and adding darker inks in others, voila!

Guest Post - Masking Technique by Corine van Kuilenburg

Today it is my pleasure to introduce the last, but by no means least, new member of the Guest Design Team, Corine van Kuilenburgh. Many of you may know this lovely lady from blogland and other social media and we are delighted to have her on board.  Today is her very first post in her new role, so it's over to you Corine.

Hello there! My name is Corine van Kuilenburg and I am delighted to be joining you for the first time as a member of the Chocolate Baroque Guest Design Team! I do hope you will enjoy what I have made for your inspiration.

My first piece shows a card made with the masking technique. I used Stazon Jet Black, Distress Ink and three stamps. The stamps I used are from the Tangled Fragments, Mackintosh Sentiments and DecorativeEdges. I will explain you how I made this card. 

1.  Stamp the rubberstamp on white cardstock with Stazon Jet Black.
2.  Stamp again on masking tape. Cut the biggest piece and place the masking tape exactly on the  stamped image.
3.  Use 2 or 3 colours Distress ink and sponge the image.
4.  Stamp the bubbles from Decorative Edges with Distress ink.
5.  Remove the masking tape.
6.  Use a water brush and Distress ink to the white part coloring.
7.  For a finishing touch you can place a text on your card.
8.  Paste your image, when its finished, on brown cardstock and on a topaz card.
9.  Finally the card measures 13.5 x 13.5 cm.
